TRAGICALLY HIP FINDS NEW LIFE WITH BOXED SET, DOC

Canadian rock outfit The Tragically Hip hasn't toured or made new music since frontman Gord Downie's 2017 death, but the group is enjoying a strong run of visibility thanks to several strategic syncs and retrospective releases.

Tomorrow (11/8), UMe/Universal Music Canada will unveil a deluxe boxed set celebrating the Hip's 1989 debut studio album, Up to Here, which has shifted more than 1m copies in the Great White North. It features the holy grail rare track "Get Back Again," which has lit up Active Rock radio charts.

The documentary No Dress Rehearsal, directed by Gord's brother Mike, premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and is now available on Amazon Prime Video. A coffee table book, This Is Our Life, is also out in partnership with Genesis Publications.

Meanwhile, the band's "Ahead by a Century" enjoyed a prominent sync in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, while "New Orleans Is Sinking" has appeared in Prime Video's Thursday night NFL coverage this season.

What's more, UMe reports catalog sales are up 307% YOY, while DSP streams have climbed 53% and YouTube views have risen 67% in the U.S.

The Tragically Hip formed in 1983 at Queen's University, won more Juno Awards than any other band (16) and received the Order of Canada, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award, an honorary fellowship with the Royal Conservatory of Music and induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The four albums it released between 1989 and 1994 turned the Hip into Canada’s most successful band of the era.
