With Songs of a Lost World, The Cure is heading for its first U.K. Official Albums #1 in 32 years. The singles midweek update, meanwhile, finds Gigi Perez facing strong competition for the top spot.
Songs of a Lost World (Polydor) is the 14th album by the Robert Smith-led band and its first release of original material in 16 years.
Elsewhere in today’s Top 10, Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷× (Tour Collection) (Atlantic) is up six to #6. Gracie Abrams’ former #1, The Secret of Us (Interscope), rises five to #10.
Further down, Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake 2 (Generation Now/Atlantic) is anticipating a Top 40 debut at #23. Weezer’s self-titled premiere (Crush Music/Atlantic) could re-enter the chart, at #26, thanks to its 30th anniversary boxed set.
On the U.K.’s Official Singles midweeks, Perez's “Sailor Song” (Island) is still #1 but barely ahead of “APT.” (Atlantic) by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars, at #2, and Abrams' “That’s So True,” at #3.
Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” (Island) rises two to #4, while “Thick of It” (Atlantic) by KSI and Trippie Redd is up three to #5 courtesy of a remix featuring NLE Choppa.
“The Door” (Atlantic) by Teddy Swims rockets five to #7. His “Bad Dreams” could reach a new peak of #13.
This week’s highest new entry appears to be “São Paulo” (Republic) by The Weeknd and Anitta, which starts at #16 today.
