RECORDING ACADEMY IS BULLISH ON WOMEN VOTERS

Women are making unprecedented inroads in the Recording Academy according to the org's 2024 annual report, which notes that 3,000 new female voting members have been added since 2019—far more than the Academy’s goal of 2,500.

Since 2019 the percentage of women voting members has grown by 27%, but that’s not the only measure of increasing diversity among the body; there’s been 65% growth in the percentage of voting members who identify as people of color, 90% growth in the percentage of Black or African American voting members, 43% growth in the percentage of Hispanic or Latin voting members and 100% growth in the percentage of Asian or Pacific Islander voting members.

Said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr., “We're not at our ultimate destination yet, but the Recording Academy membership has never been more reflective of the music community than it is today. It represents a dynamic and vibrant body of music creators who push the boundaries of a rapidly changing musical ecosystem while driving our culture forward and deciding Grammy outcomes. It’s the most diverse, representative Grammy electorate ever.”
