Kamala Harris picked a vice presidential candidate who knows about a lot more than just politics—indeed, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is an avowed rock fan whose tastes are celebrated in the latest edition of the New York Times playlist series, The Amplifier.
The 10-song roundup salutes the state's eclectic musical history, from the hugely influential underground rock of Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, The Hold Steady and Babes in Toyland to the urban-influenced sounds of Prince and Lizzo. Let's also not forget Hibbing, Minnesota, native Bob Dylan, whom Walz wished a happy 80th birthday on social media in 2021.
In a related article, the Times digs deeper into Walz's appreciation of music, unearthing the delightful nugget that the governor mailed his former House colleague Beto O'Rourke a vinyl copy of The Replacements' Tim last year when it was reissued with a new audio mix.
Listen to the playlist below and rock on, voters—you ARE a voter, aren't you?
