JESSE COLIN YOUNG BRINGING SONGWRITERS "TOGETHER"

Celebrated songwriter Jesse Colin Young is working to “Get Together” with a new generation of musical activists via a songwriting contest pegged to the reissue of his 1982 album, The Perfect Stranger.

With the Youngbloods, Young created one of the most resonant anthems of the '60s in “Get Together"—released smack-dab in the middle of 1967's Summer of Love—and now he’s partnering with social justice-focused label Future Youth Records for The Perfect Stranger Songwriting Contest. The competition is open to writers between the ages of 18 and 24, who are asked to submit unreleased, socially conscious songs through SoundCloud by 8/15.

Winners, to be announced on 8/31, will receive prize packages including Taylor guitars, song distribution and production support, including studio work by Young himself.

In early May, Young digitally reissued The Perfect Stranger, which features appearances by Carly Simon and Michael McDonald.
