Spotify chieftain Daniel Ek is savoring a terrific Q2 earnings report, which includes a 20% year-over-year spike in net profit. Having raised subscription fees—and worked to curb the noise—Ek has not only improved the DSP’s financial picture but added significantly to bottom lines throughout the music biz. With monthly users and subscriptions up, Ek has got to be feeling pretty upbeat—though this HITS contents shout-out is unlikely to make it onto his playlist.
