It's been 25 years since Eminem released The Slim Shady LP (Aftermath/Interscope). Opening at #2 with 283k in pure album sales, the record has amassed total activity in the U.S. alone of more than 7m equivalents. By the end of 1999, Shady had been certified triple platinum and would go on to earn Eminem the first two of his 15 Grammys to date.
In the quarter century since Shady's release, each of Em's nine subsequent studio albums has debuted at #1.
On Friday (7/19) The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) will become Eminem's 10th consecutive studio album to debut atop HITS' Top 50, extending his active streak of #1 studio releases to 10.
It should be noted that two other of his albums also debuted at #1—2002's 8 Mile soundtrack and 2005's Curtain Call—giving the Detroit native a total of 12 albums to open on top. Someone get Steve Berman on the phone.
