RECORDING ACADEMY EXTENDS INVITATIONS TO 3,900

In an ongoing push to increase inclusivity and representation in the music industry, the Recording Academy has extended membership invitations to more than 3,900 biz professionals—45% of whom are women, 57% of whom are people of color and 47% of whom are under the age of 40.

This year's class keeps the Academy ahead of schedule to hit its goal of adding 2,500 female voting members by 2025.

The invitation process, which is "community-driven and peer-reviewed annually," provides for both Voting and Professional membership. Those invited in the former category will be eligible to vote in the 2025 Grammy ceremony, beginning with the first ballot on 10/4.

"There's no better way to kick off Grammy season than by inviting thousands of diverse and talented music creators and professionals to join our Recording Academy family," said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. "Our members are the heart of the Academy, driving our mission to make lasting, positive impact on the music community and shape music history. We are hopeful that all 3,900+ invitees join us in serving, celebrating and championing the voices of music creators year-round."

The invitees include such acts as Grupo Frontera, Tanner Adell, girl in red, My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero and Teddy Swims, the latter of whom noted, "I am truly humbled to be invited into the Recording Academy. It is an honor to be a part of something that so many of my heroes have belonged to."
