REPORT: SPOTIFY PAYMENTS TO EUROPEAN ARTISTS UP 16%

Spotify says European artists generated nearly €1.5b on its platform last year, up 16% year over year and triple the revenue recorded in 2017.

European artists account for around 18% of the $9b+ Spotify paid to the global music industry in 2023, as revealed in its annual Loud & Clear report.

Last year, more than 15k European artists generated more than €10k, according to Spotify, with more than 25k generating more than €5k.

The streaming platform says 44% of all royalties generated in the EU were from local artists, which is reportedly the highest level since its records began in 2017. More than half of all royalties (55%) generated by EU artists were by those who perform in a language other than English.

In May, Spotify published its payout stats for Europe’s biggest market, the U.K., and said that British artists generated £750m (€889m) in royalties in 2023.

Now pass the crumpets and turn up that Mrs. Mills playlist.
