Halsey's first release for new label Columbia also serves as a commentary on the artist's recent health struggles, which include having been diagnosed with both Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022.
The news was revealed in social media posts to announce the single "The End," with the artist proclaiming, "Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with 'The End.' Out now."
Halsey said both diseases "are currently being managed or are in remission," though they will likely require lifelong treatment. "After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After two years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to.”
"The End" was written and produced by Halsey, with additional production by Michael Uzowuru and recent RCA signing Alex G. In tandem with the song's release, Halsey has made donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Lupus Research Alliance.
Halsey was previously signed to Capitol Music Group, which released her most recent full-length, 2021's If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power. She will appear in Ti West's MaXXXine, premiering 7/5.
