ASCAP LAUDS USHER, VICTORIA MONÉT

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will honor USHER and Victoria Monét at a party to celebrate the company’s top music creators on 6/27 in L.A.

USHER will receive ASCAP’s Voice of the Culture Award and Monét will accept the Vanguard Award.

“USHER has owned the R&B crown for decades, captivating listeners with his incomparable vocal chops and songs that span the R&B and pop genres,” said ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams. “His charisma and performances are unmatched in the R&B world and his humanitarian impact is just as undeniable.”

“Victoria Monét has proven herself as an illuminating songwriter. She is also a flourishing artist and ASCAP member who continues to break barriers,” continued Williams.

ASCAP presents the Voice of the Culture Award to members “who have had a major influence on music and culture.” Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and D-Nice were the latest artists to receive the award, in 2021. USHER, a singer, actor, dancer and philanthropist, has sold more than 80m records worldwide since debuting in 1994 while tallying nine #1 Pop hits and launching his New Look Foundation. He records for gamma/mega. and is managed by Ron Laffitte.

The Vanguard Award is presented to ASCAP writers “whose innovative work is helping to shape the future of music.” Past recipients include Migos, Janelle Monáe and the Beastie Boys. Monét has won three Grammys, including Best New Artist earlier this year, as well as Soul Train, iHeartRadio and NAACP Image awards. Her hit “On My Mama,” released by Lovett/RCA, has more than 123m streams. She's managed by Rachelle Jean-Louis.

Reached for comment, USHER’s pal Lil Jon replied, “Yeah! What? Okaaay!”
