Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism (Warner) has scored her the biggest opening week for a British woman since Adele’s 30. Over on singles, Sabrina Carpenter (Island) tallies a second week at the top.
Radical Optimism shifted 46.3k in chart sales this week to hit #1, the most for any British female since 30 was released in 2021. The album is also the biggest opening week for a British act this year, surpassing Liam Gallagher and John Squire’s eponymous LP, which moved 39.4k the first week in March.
With her third set, Lipa has her first to debut at #1 in the U.K. (2020’s Future Nostalgia hit #1 in its second week on the chart and 2017’s Dua Lipa peaked at #3).
Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (EMI) has moved down to #2. Frank Turner is new at #3 with UNDEFEATED (Xtra Mile), while Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones scores a solo career best with Inevitable Incredible (Ignition) landing at #6.
On the U.K.’s Official Singles chart, “Espresso” by Carpenter reigns for a second week with 76.5k in chart sales. It’s still the most-streamed song in the U.K., with 8.6m over the last seven days.
Hozier’s “Too Sweet” (Island) is up one to #2. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (American Dogwood/EMPIRE) climbs three to #3, and Tommy Richman’s “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” (ISO/PULSE Records) vaults 24 places to #7.
Kendrick Lamar has his eighth Top 10 U.K. single with Drake diss “Not Like Us” (Interscope) at #10. He has two more tracks in the Top 40: “euphoria” is at #11 and “meet the grahams” at #28. Drake’s response track “Family Matters” (OVO/Republic) debuts at #17 today.
