RECORD-BREAKING 1.6M FANS TURN OUT FOR MADONNA IN RIO

Madonna added another jewel to her bedazzled headpiece on Saturday (5/4) as her free concert on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach drew a record-breaking 1.6m people to close her 80-show Live Nation-promoted Celebration world tour.

The set list featured a couple special nods to the setting, with "Music" appearing for the first time during the tour—as a samba enlivened by Brazilian drag performer Pabllo Vittar—and Brazilian pop star Anitta helping judge a runway-strutting contest during "Vogue."

The previous attendance record for a stand-alone concert also happened on Copacabana Beach, when the Rolling Stones drew 1.5m there in 2006.

"You have always been there for me,” Madonna, 65, told the throngs during the show, her first in Brazil in more than a decade. “That flag—that green-and-yellow flag. I see it everywhere. I feel it in my heart."

It was a triumphant finale for Celebration, which was postponed for several months last year while Madonna recovered from a serious bacterial infection. The tour was the first major retrospective of Madonna's unique career, featuring a number of rarely performed songs and dazzling stage design.
