HELL’S KITCHEN AND STEREOPHONIC LEAD TONY NOMS

Nominations for the American Theatre Wing’s 77th Annual Tony Awards have been revealed by Tony winners Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Leading the pack with 13 nominations each are the semi-autobiographical musical Hell's Kitchen by Alicia Keys and the Fleetwood Mac-inspired play Stereophonic. Will Butler, formerly of Arcade Fire, earned nods for Best Original Score and Best Orchestration (with Justin Craig) for Stereophonic, which now holds the distinction of being the most-nominated play in Tony Awards history.

Following closely behind is The Outsiders, a musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton's beloved novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film, with an impressive 12 nods. The battle for Best Musical will likely be between Hell's Kitchen and The Outsiders while Stereophonic contends for Best Play.

Illinoise, the musical/ballet inspired by Sufjan Stevens' acclaimed 2005 album, secures four nominations, including nods for Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Orchestration. Additionally, Here Lies Love, the disco-infused musical adaptation of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's 2010 concept album, earned four nominations, including Best Original Score recognition for the two maestros.

The 77th Tony Awards will air live 6/16 on CBS while streaming on Paramount+. The show will be hosted by Ariana DeBose.

The Tony Awards are produced in collaboration with Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, and White Cherry Entertainment. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss serve as showrunners and executive producers for White Cherry Entertainment, and Weiss will serve as director. Jack Sussman is also an executive producer.
