Taylor Swift's THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, dropping Friday (4/19), is due to be an absolute monster. Biz watchers are predicting mammoth numbers for the set’s chart debut. And given the expansive real estate Tay commands in the pop-cultural firmament, it stands to reason that the themes of the record will assert themselves outside music. Which brings us to this latest news from Tay, Spotify and your local librarian.
The Republic megastar and the sector-leading DSP have joined forces for THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT library installation, today (4/17) and Thursday (4/18) at The Grove in L.A. Sonnet-savoring Swifties will be encouraged to explore an open-air poetry collection curated to represent themes from Tay’s impending album. The verse-loving presenters promise not only books but “visual surprises."
As usual, it's a master class in creative marketing from the most biz-astute artist around. And if you pick up the right volume, it might also be a class in how to assemble a compelling stanza.
The installation will be updated daily, and Spotify’s socials will chronicle the bookish bacchanale for those who can’t attend IRL. We’ve been advised to keep an eye on Taylor’s countdown page as the TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT prepares to open for business.
See you at the Grove, and don’t bogart that Wordsworth.
