SYSTEM OF A DOWN TO ROCK FIRST NIGHT SHOW IN GOLDEN GATE PARK

The Polo Field at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco has played host to daytime concerts from Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin since 1967, but for various logistical and regulatory reasons has never been the site of such an event in the evening.

That will change on 8/17, when System of a Down, Deftones, The Mars Volta, Viagra Boys and VOWWS descend on the park for a one-off hard-rock extravaganza, produced by Another Planet Entertainment, Live Nation and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Ticket details can be found here.

"We are expecting fans from not just the Bay Area but from across the U.S. and internationally to travel to the city, injecting money into the local economy," said Allen Scott, president of concerts and festivals at Another Planet. "From hotels to local restaurants and everything in between, this will be a great night of music and a great economic boost for the city."

The show will kick off a planned series of similar, Another Planet-promoted concerts at the Polo Field, with further details to be announced. It will also be System of a Down's only other performance of 2024 aside from at Live Nation's Sick New World festival on 4/27 in Las Vegas.

Both that group and Deftones are managed by David "Beno" Benveniste for Velvet Hammer, who has managed to successfully duck our calls for years.
