TOP 50: A SAVAGE STREAK PUTS RAP BACK ON THE MAP

Slaughter Gang/Epic’s 21 Savage returns to #1 on this week’s HITS Top 50 chart with american dream. Savage’s 15-track set logs 76k in its second week. In a departure from the trend of 2023, during which no rap albums topped the album chart until mid-June, 21 Savage puts the genre back in the spotlight with the first major bow of the year.

Republic, meanwhile, more than maintains its formidable 2023 momentum, securing a dazzling six spots in the Top 10. Big Loud/Mercury’s Morgan Wallen and OVO’s Drake are this week’s leaders for House Lipman at #2 and #3, respectively, followed by scorching-hot Best New Artist nominee Noah Kahan at #5 with Stick Season. Taylor Swift has eight albums on the chart. EIGHT.

Breaking up the Republic block is Reprise’s Green Day at #4. The Crush-repped pop-punk exemplar scores the week’s top debut with Saviors, which opens at 51k, besting the lads' previous bow, 2020’s Father of All.

Other apex premieres belong to Rimas rapper Eladio Carrión at #29, BMG’s Lil Dicky at #42 and Warner’s Teddy Swims at #43. His I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy (Part I) cracks the Top 50 for the first time behind its viral single, “Lose Control.”

Now, if you’ll excuse us, after consulting the L.A. weather forecast for Grammy week—"impactful atmospheric river event!"—we have to start waterproofing our tux. See the full chart here.
