WATCH THE TRAILER FOR THE GREATEST NIGHT IN POP

The trailer for Netflix’s documentary on the recording of “We Are the World” has been released 10 days out from its premier at the Sundance Film Festival.

The Greatest Night in Pop, which premieres at Sundance on 1/19 and on Netflix on 1/29, tells untold stories about the starry night that brought together the biggest names in pop music to record a charity single to aid famine relief in Africa. It starts with Harry Belafonte suggesting the idea to Lionel Richie who collaborates with Michael Jackson on the tune. Richie’s manager, Ken Kragen, and Quincy Jones start getting the ball rolling on attracting the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and other folks who were in L.A. for the American Music Awards ceremony. Mayhem ensues. (Sharp eyes watching the trailer will observe Cyndi Lauper removing her jewelry after the noise it was making was marring the recording).

Richie produced the film with his current manager Bruce Eskowitz, awards show producer Larry Klein, Julia Nottingham, Harriet Sternberg and George Hencken.
