OLIVIA'S #1 "IDEA" (UPDATE)

When is a “bad idea” a good idea? When it means more music from Olivia Rodrigo’s forthcoming sophomore album, GUTS, due 9/8 on Geffen Records.

Released Friday (8/11), second single "bad idea right?" briefly hit #1 on Spotify's USA Top 50, though it's now been knocked to #2 by Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer." It's also in the Top 10 of the global chart.

The song is the follow-up to GUTS' "vampire" (now Top 10 at Spotify global and #11 at Apple Music).

“bad idea right?” is a dramatic shift from the intensity of “vampire”; it’s a frenetic and fun look at getting back with an ex against all better judgment. Isn’t that what all 20-year-olds do?

Frequent collaborator Daniel Nigro produced and co-wrote. “‘bad idea right?’ started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something,” said Rodrigo. “We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall—in one of the choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me gradually screaming louder and louder.”

The "bad idea right?" video was directed by Grammy winner Petra Collings, who worked with Rodrigo on the "good 4 u" clip. Check it out.
