Jesse Malin, who suffered a rare spinal stroke in May that left him paralyzed from the waist down, has issued an update on his condition.
On Thursday (6/29), the D Generation singer shared an Instagram video thanking his fans for their support.
“Hey everyone, I just wanted to send out this message with huge gratitude and huge love for everything, all of the support in every single way," he said. "I shot this video from my hospital room here. I’m in New York. Even though it’s been 8 weeks, I’m working really hard, physically and spiritually, doing my best. I miss everybody, and I miss being outside, but I will get there.”
Malin previously spent two weeks at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, where he underwent several spinal procedures. He’s now in rehab at NYU Hospital's Langone Orthopedic Center learning how to do daily tasks and move his body without the use of his legs. According to Rolling Stone, he's expected to be discharged this month. He’ll need a wheelchair and will have to relocate to an ADA-compliant apartment.
“The reports from the doctors have been tough, and there’s moments in the day where you want to cry, and where you’re scared,” he said. “But I keep saying to myself that I can make this happen. I can recover my body.”
A Sweet Relief campaign has been mounted in Malin's name to help cover his mounting medical costs. Fans can also support the effort by purchasing a T-shirt. All proceeds will go to the Jesse Malin Fund, which you can visit here.
