NOTHING PETTY ABOUT IT

The family of Tom Petty is pursuing legal action against RR Auction house. According to a statement, they believe several items up for auction that belonged to the late rock icon were stolen from a secure archive. The family is looking for the immediate return of the items and ask collectors to refrain from participating in the auction until the matter is resolved.

“We believe RR Auction, headquartered in Boston, is offering stolen Tom Petty memorabilia with a completely false provenance and in complete denial of clear evidence they have been presented with," the family said. "They will not disclose the cosigner who has provided these items or how they were acquired. But they are clearly stolen. There is no other word for it.”

The missing articles include apparel, autographed items and exclusive limited editions traced back to family members.

The statement continued, “These items have irreplaceable sentimental and educational value, and we look forward to their safe return.”

Petty died in 2017 at the age of 66. We still can't listen to "Mary Jane's Last Dance" without crying.
