The new arrivals at iTunes this Flipover Friday has been disrupted by fans' buying multiple titles by Jeff Beck following the guitarist’s death on Tuesday. Miley Cyrus is battling it out with K-pop stars for the top slot at songs.
Swing jazz duo Rachael & Vilray have the top new arrival, I Love a Love Song! (Nonesuch), at #2, followed by Neon Noir (Heartagram) by ex-HIM leader VV at #4. Obituary’s Dying of Everything (Relapse) pops in at #5, and Margo Price’s Strays (Loma Vista) drifts to #6. Old Dominion’s four-song Memory Lane (Sampler) (Arista Nashville) is #8.
Seven of Jeff Beck's Epic albums land in the Top 20, including his best-known jazz-rock fusion sets, 1975’s Blow by Blow at #1 and 1976’s Wired at #7, plus his 1968 debut solo record, Truth, at #3. Beck-Ola, from 1969, is #10, followed by the compilation Best of Beck at #12 and the boxed set Beckology at #14. His most recent album, 18 (Rhino), with Johnny Depp, is #18. Another eight of his albums are in the Top 50.
The Beck rush has pushed new arrivals from VEDO, Blessing Offor and Belle and Sebastian lower in the Top 30.
At songs, Cyrus’ “Flowers” (Columbia) opens at #2 behind #1 “Vibe” (THEBLACKLABEL/Interscope) by TAEYANG f/Jimin of BTS. Bizarrap & Shakira’s Wednesday release, “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” (Dale Play), claims #3.
BabyTron’s Bin Reaper 3: New Testament (HipHop Lab/Empire) is the top new arrival at Apple Music, coming in at #20.
