Team Columbia is whooping it up after scoring the #1 overall label share (15.3) on the latest year-end Mediabase chart, which covers airplay from 11/7/21 through 11/5/22. The Peter Gray-led Big Red squadron also ruled Pop (23.8) and Hot AC (22). Peter and crew—who have the most-played song in Lil Nas X’s “THAT'S WHAT I WANT” as well as three of the Top 4 and five of the Top 10—intend to celebrate by putting on their holiday hoodies and losing our number.
Also fired up: Keith Rothschild, Sam Selolwane and their RCA promo fam, who are #2 overall with 14.1 and hold sway at Rhythmic (21.1), Urban (15.9) and R&B (20.7). They also have a Top 5 song in Doja Cat’s “Need to Know.” Nipper gets an extra treat as a result and has been encouraged to lift his leg in front of our place.
Last year’s overall champ, Gary Spangler’s Republic crew, claims AC (22.3) and Triple A (11.7), plus the #2 song with Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves.” Warner takes Alternative (12.7), which has Mike Chester, Rob Goldklang and company very amped indeed. Broken Bow and Capitol Nashville are tied at Country with 9.6; BBR’s Carson James and UMG Nashville’s Royce Risser are hoping the celebratory drinks will also blot out any memory of us.
Congratulations and season’s greetings to all of the above. As Santa likes to say, “Ho, ho, hey buddy.”
