SETTING THE TEMPO WITH GIBSON GIVES

Hikma Pharmaceuticals has donated $1m to Gibson Gives—the philanthropic arm of Gibson—marking the company's largest gift to date. The funds will go toward TEMPO, the Training and Empowering Musicians to Prevent Overdose program.

The three-year commitment, titled TEMPO, Powered by Kloxxado, consists of 16k doses of naloxone HCl, a drug used to prevent opioid overdoses and provide support for recovery from opioid addiction (Kloxxado is a nasally administered form of naloxone). Gibson Gives will train musicians, crew members, music-industry professionals and nonprofits how to properly administer Kloxxado in an effort to prevent overdose deaths.

MusiCares will be the first TEMPO partner to be activated, at this weekend’s Pilgrimage Music & Culture Festival in Franklin, Tenn., just outside Nashville.

Gibson Senior Director of Cultural Influence Erica Krusen expressed the company's gratitude and remarked, “Opiate overdoses persist as a major public-health problem, contributing to more than 100,000 U.S. deaths just last year. These deaths are preventable through the timely administration of naloxone—a safe, effective and easy-to-administer medication that reverses opioid overdoses and helps save lives.”

Gibson Gives’ TEMPO program has partnered with 12 nonprofit members so far: in addition to MusiCares, The Scars Foundation, The Clinic (Roadie Advocacy Group), the Sandgaard Foundation, the Sims Foundation, Harbor Path, Musicians for Overdose Prevention, Life by Music, Passenger Recovery, National Harm Reduction and Solace for Hope.
