BMAC TO FETE LIL BABY, PLATT, MORE

The Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) has announced that Lil Baby will be honored with the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award for his contribution to racial and social justice at its second-annual Music in Action Gala 9/22 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

BMAC will also honor Sony Music Publishing chief Jon Platt with the Clarence Avant Trailblazer Award, while 300 Entertainment CEO Kevin Liles, Amazon Music and the Recording Academy will be recognized with the Social Impact Award; Variety Executive Editor of Music Shirley Halperin was recently added as an award recipient, as were Billboard Executive Director, R&B/Hip-Hop Gail Mitchell and music manager David Ali. Journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, attorney and author Brittany K. Barnett and Culture CreatorsJoi Brown will receive the Change Agent Award. Last but not least, Congresswoman Maxine Waters will be presented with the inaugural Icon Award.

Co-hosted by singer and Bel Air actress Coco Jones and entertainment/lifestyle/ culture figure Kenny Burns, the gala will also feature a live performance by R&B group WanMor.

"The road we have all been driving on toward racial and social justice has been long, it’s been uphill and it definitely has not been easy," BMAC co-founder and Co-Chair Caron Veazey said. "So to take an evening out to shine a light on those who've given of themselves to make a way for someone else is a welcome rest stop on the freeway to equality."

This year’s sponsors of BMAC's Music in Action Gala include Amazon Music, Primary Wave, Live Nation, AEG Presents, Spotify, Saban Music Group and Rémy Martin.
