While Bruce Springsteen fans in L.A. wait for the Boss and the E Street Band to announce a local show in 2023, the Grammy Museum is stepping in with an exhibit that covers the entirety of his career.
Bruce Springsteen Live!—featuring 49 years' worth of artifacts, performance footage, instruments, stage costumes, exclusive interviews, concert posters and photography, plus interactive displays—will open 10/15 at the museum’s downtown Los Angeles location and run through 4/2.
Exhibit highlights include the Born to Run Esquire guitar, Clarence Clemons’ saxophone, the Tunnel of Love ticket-booth stage prop, Max Weinberg’s Tunnel of Love drum kit and a drum interactive with tips from Weinberg. An interactive kiosk will allow visitors to view Springsteen's handwritten set lists and create their own encores to compare against his originals.
“Few performers embody the soul and excitement of live rock 'n' roll like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” said co-curator Robert Santelli. “This exhibit will give fresh insight into how they’ve been able to remain one of the greatest live acts for five decades.”
The traveling show was created in partnership with the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University in New Jersey, which Santelli oversees.
Prior to the opening of Bruce Springsteen Live!, the Grammy Museum is inviting fans to stop by on Springsteen’s 73rd birthday—9/23—to share their stories in person and on camera and wish Bruce a happy birthday. It will be the rare opportunity for Angelenos to reflect on the old Sports Arena with fond memories.
