FAREWELL TO MARK "MR. VOICE" DRISCOLL

The radio industry is mourning the death of Mark "Mr. Voice" Driscoll, acclaimed program director, Top 40 DJ and V/O pro.

Driscoll died on 8/22 in hospice in West Palm Beach, Fla., at the age of 72 following a fall sustained in July. Details of his death were related by videographer Art Vuolo (himself dubbed "Radio's Best Friend" by Scott Shannon, in part for the airchecks he provided programmers).

Driscoll began his broadcast career in Texas as a teen. By his early twenties, he'd compiled an impressive résumé, with stints in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C.

In 1974, Driscoll branched out into programming and quickly rose through the ranks; over the years he worked for such stations as Kiss 108 Boston, WPLJ New York, Y100 Miami, WKQI Detroit and KIIS-FM Los Angeles.

He also contributed voice-overs to several of Vuolo's video channels and did promos for the Worldwide Radio Summit and various TV shows. A selection of his work in this capacity appears below.

Longtime friend and fellow radio personality Bill Hennes said Driscoll had a "wicked sense of humor" up until the end and would appreciate the tribute "Driscoll always hit the Mark!"

Driscoll's loved ones have our most heartfelt condolences.
