H.E.R. FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST MBK

Oscar and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter H.E.R. has filed a lawsuit against MBK Entertainment requesting to be released from the label she has been signed to since she was 14 years old.

MBK founder Jeff Robinson has repped H.E.R. since 2011, when she first inked a deal with his firm. The suit involves the rights to her entire catalog. Sony and RCA have been the distribution partners for every release of her career.

In the filing, H.E.R. claims that MBK limited her rights as an employee and that she “has not been free to provide her recording services except as permitted or dictated by MBK.” The suit also alleges that MBK “has exclusively owned the right to exploit her name and likeness for her recordings,” among other charges.

The RCA star has elevated her status considerably over the last half decade, earning Oscar and Grammy (SOTY) wins for "I Can't Breathe" from Judas & the Black Messiah, as well as Grammys for Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Traditional Performance.

Attorney Allen Grodsky is representing H.E.R. Stay tuned to see how this plays out.
