Tyler Arnold has been appointed president and Ben Adelson GM of the relaunched Mercury Records, which will serve as an extension of Republic. The pair will report to Republic co-founders Monte and Avery Lipman. Arnold will be based in NYC, Adelson in L.A. Both most recently served as EVPs of A&R at Republic.
Mercury’s roster will include Post Malone (who was signed by Arnold) and James Bay and Lord Huron (both signed by Adelson), not to mention new acts like BoyWithUke and Ka$hdami, among others. The label has strategic alliances with Republic-affiliated Big Loud in Nashville (a pact spearheaded by Arnold) and Imperial Music (Bo Burnham, signed by Arnold).
“Tyler and Ben have been top A&R executives over the past few years. Their accomplishments speak volumes,” proclaimed Monte while erasing us from his contacts. “The legacy of Mercury Records will be in perfect hands.”
Arnold, who joined Republic in 2014, expressed gratitude to the brothers Lipman and noted, "It's Mercury’s priority to lead as a creative company, putting our artists first and taking an energetic, entrepreneurial approach to A&R and marketing. We are building Mercury to become the modern music label."
Added Adelson, who first served at Republic as an intern in 2007 and became Avery’s assistant two years later—and continues to insist that he is unrelated to Dave—"Tyler and I each began our careers at Republic and have worked together for almost a decade. We’ve leaned on Republic co-presidents Jim Roppo and Wendy Goldstein for their wisdom, perspective and guidance and hope to bring that same leadership and forward thinking to our roles at Mercury."
In addition to those listed above, Arnold has signed acts like Clairo, Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler. He likewise engineered Republic’s partnership with Metro Boomin. Adelson’s other signings include Conan Gray and Noah Kahan (the latter having also moved to Mercury). They both look forward to lots and lots of punning headlines about thermometers and whatnot.
Mercury Records was co-founded in 1945 by Irving Green.
