BATISTE, STAPLETON LEAD iTUNES SURGE

The ding-ding-dings Jon Batiste and Chris Stapleton heard after the Grammy ceremony didn’t come just from Vegas slot machines; that was also the sound emanating from the iTunes cash register.

Batiste, with five wins and a primetime performance, and Stapleton, who won three awards and performed “Cold” early in the show, zoomed to the top of the iTunes albums and songs sales charts, where they remain three days later.

Batiste’s Album of the Year winner, We Are (Verve), still tops iTunes albums as of Wednesday morning, while the deluxe edition of the set is in the Top. 20. It got a head start on the competition thanks to a CBS Sunday Morning profile that pushed the album into the Top 10 by midday Sunday.

Stapleton’s Country AOTY, Starting Over (Mercury Nashville), is #4 at albums. “Cold,” meanwhile, has held onto to #1 at songs, one slot above Batiste’s “Freedom.”

Batiste and Stapleton are also dominating in physical sales at Amazon. We Are is the best-selling CD, and the deluxe edition and LP are in the Top 10; the CD of Stapleton's Starting Over is in the Top 5.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s Silk Sonic was also a huge beneficiary of their presence on the telecast as show opener and with prime seating up front. Record of the Year/Song of the Year winner “Leave the Door Open” (Aftermath/Atlantic) has risen to #4 at iTunes. An Evening With Silk Sonic shot to #5 from outside the Top 50, where it had resided earlier in the day. The clean version of the album is #9, up from #91 Sunday morning.

Best New Artist winner Olivia Rodrigo has also enjoyed a return to both Top 10s. The song she performed on the telecast, Pop Solo Performance winner “drivers license” (Geffen), is #10 early Monday morning. Pop Vocal Album SOUR is up to #8.

BTS did not have a song in the Top 200 on Sunday, and despite performing “Butter,” it’s their “We Are Bulletproof” (Big Hit) that has risen to #4. Other performances that resulted in songs flying into the Top 10 were Brandi Carlile’s “Right on Time” (Low Country Sound/Elektra) and Justin Bieber’s “Peaches” (Def Jam).

Albums enjoying sales boosts thanks to Grammy wins and performances also included Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever (Darkroom/Interscope), Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga’s Love for Sale (Columbia/Interscope) and Jazmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales (RCA).
