Capitol Records U.K.’s Jo Charrington (right) has been named Co-President of EMI Records alongside Rebecca Allen, uniting EMI and Capitol under the same label group.
Capitol U.K.’s roster and team will now operate as a division of the wider EMI family, next to Motown U.K., with the two set to share resources. Charrington has moved over following the exit of Capitol Co-President Nick Raphael earlier this year.
Charrington has spent nine years at Capitol, during which time she's played a pivotal role in the careers of Sam Smith, Aitch, Mae Muller and Zoe Wees. Her career in A&R has seen 30 platinum or multiplatinum albums.
Calling it “a game-changing moment for EMI,” Universal Music U.K. Chairman/CEO David Joseph said, “Becky and Jo make an exceptional team with a united vision for what a modern record label should be. Becky’s leadership together with Jo’s unrivalled A&R track record sets up what promises to be an exciting new era for EMI and its artists.”
Said Allen, "Jo is someone I've always admired and respected, both as a friend and an outstanding executive. We’ve built a fantastic relationship over the years and we will be running a label that is both innovative and forward-thinking with our artists and their music always at its heart."
