NAACP IMAGE AWARDS: THE NOMS

Nominations for the 53rd NAACP Image Awards were announced today, with RCA’s H.E.R. leading the pack with six nods, including Best Female Artist and Outstanding Album for Back of My Mind. Drake, Chlöe, Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan received four nominations each. With a total of 15, RCA garnered the most nominations of any label.

Anthony Hamilton, Drake, GIVĒON, J. Cole and Lil Nas X are up for Outstanding Male Artist; Ari Lennox, Beyoncé, Chlöe, H.E.R. and Sullivan are up for Outstanding Female Artist. Nominated in the Outstanding New Artist category were Cynthia Erivo, Jimmie Allen, Saweetie, Tems and Zoe Wees. In addition to H.E.R., Outstanding Album nominations went to Silk Sonic, Drake, Sullivan and GIVĒON.

Acknowledged in the Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album category were Saweetie, Chlöe, WizKid, Tobe Nwigwe and Silk Sonic.

RCA Inspiration and Provident Entertainment earned three noms apiece in the gospel/Christian categories. Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music’s duet project was nominated in the Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album category, while H.E.R. and Tauren Wells’ “Hold Us Together (Hope Mix)” and Kirk Franklin’s “Overcome 2021” were recognized in the Outstanding Gospel/Christian Song category.

Lil Nas X will face off against Jennifer Hudson, Megan Thee Stallion, Regina King and Tiffany Haddish for Entertainer of the Year. Netflix scored the most nominations in the motion picture, television and streaming categories.

Hosted by black-ish star Anthony Anderson, the 53rd NAACP Image Awards will air live on BET 2/26 at 8pm ET.
