R.I.P., MICK ROCK

Mick Rock, whose photography of rock stars in the 1970s are some of the most iconic images in rock history, has died at the age of 72.

Most famously associated with David Bowie, he shot the singer throughout the 1970s, chronicling the Ziggy Stardust era and shooting the album covers for Space Oddity and Pinups. Moreover, he directed videos for “Space Oddity,” “Life on Mars,” “Jean Genie” and “John, I’m Only Dancing.”

Among the album covers he shot are Queen’s Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack, Lou Reed’s Transformer and Coney Island Baby, Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll and Album, Iggy and the StoogesRaw Power and the RamonesEnd of the Century.

Debbie Harry, Syd Barrett, Miley Cyrus, Ozzy Osbourne, Janelle Monae and Snoop Dogg were also among his famous subjects.

A documentary on Rock, SHOT!, was released in 2016.
