LIVE NATION'S VELASQUEZ DIES IN MIAMI CONDO COLLAPSE

Police in Miami have identified one of the victims of the Surfside condominium collapse as a Live Nation team member, Theresa Velasquez. She was 36.

The exec was in Miami visiting her parents, who lived in the condo and also perished in the 6/24 disaster, one of the most catastrophic structural collapses in the nation's history. The current death toll is 97.

Velasquez began her career as a DJ and became a celebrated fixture on the global dance scene—notably at high-profile LGBTQ+ events like Super Martxe, the Circuit Music Festival, the White Party and Aqua Girl—before co-founding the indie LGBTQIA-focused Audio4Play label with fellow DJ Hector Fonseca. She also served in the marketing department at the Miami office of Sony's Latin division.

During her six years at Live Nation (which followed two at SFX) she rose to the post of SVP Strategic Partnerships, Music and Entertainment. LN chief Michael Rapino tweeted about this loss, calling Velasquez "a beloved friend, daughter, sister and co-worker." The company issued this statement:

Our hearts break at the loss of our beloved Theresa Velasquez, her parents, Angela and Julio, and everyone taken far too soon in the tragic accident in Surfside, Fla. Theresa was an impassioned leader at Live Nation who elevated every project she was part of, at the same time breaking down barriers for women and the LGBTQIA+ community. We will always remember and honor the impact she made and will miss her dearly.
