RECORDING ACADEMY BOARD OF TRUSTEES:
SAME AS IT EVER WAS?

The Recording Academy has announced the officers newly elected to its Board of Trustees. Tammy Hurt has been named Chair, with Rico Love as Vice Chair and Om’Mas Keith as Secretary/Treasurer; Christine Albert continues as Chair Emeritus. All appointments are effective immediately.

Hurt and Albert are longtime players at the Academy, and the continuation of such figures in exalted roles, as we've noted previously, indicates that the status quo as regards transparency and other issues is unlikely to change. Adjustments to Grammy rules and the ostensible elimination of the Secret Nominating Committees, insiders say, will do little to change a culture that has become notorious for horse-trading and secrecy.

Nonetheless, newly installed CEO Harvey Mason Jr. hailed their election. "I'm in awe of the amazingly talented group that's been elected to lead this new era of the Academy and really excited at the possibilities as I start this journey with Tammy, Rico, Om'Mas and Christine," reads his quote. "I know this group is going to do great work as we continue to transform the Academy and support the music community."

Hurt and Albert were said to be instrumental in installing Mason as CEO after his interim stint.
