UMG stalwart Will Tanous has been upped to EVP, Chief Administrative Officer, effective immediately. He will continue to serve on the group’s Executive Management Board and report to Sir Lucian Grainge.
Tanous, who joined the company in 2013 as EVP of Communications, will retain his current responsibilities and take on new duties involving “major strategic and corporate endeavors.”
“Will Tanous is one of the most strategic, multitalented executives in the music business today—he’s my proverbial 'Swiss Army knife,'" reads a quote from Sir Grainge. “This formal expansion of the scope of Will’s responsibilities acknowledges what has been firmly in place for some time: his wide-ranging role in the day-to day executive management of our global organization, as well as his contributions to our long-term growth strategy. I’m thrilled that he will be right by my side as we write the next exciting chapter in the history of UMG.”
The highly respected Tanous came to Uni from WMG, where he served for two decades, ultimately as EVP of Communications & Marketing. His strategic duties at Warner included preparation for its 2011 sale to Access Industries and 2005 IPO on the NYSE.
Tanous' first official act in his new role will be putting the entire HITS editorial team on his “blocked callers” list.
