VAN ARNO, 1963-2021

This hopeful and historic day is tinged with terrible sadness for the HITS family; Van Arno, our brilliant, devoted cartoonist, has died. Van was key to the visual identity of HITS from the very beginning, his keenly satirical eye and sensibility shaping our Airhead cartoon from its early days as a black-and-white still image to its final incarnation as an animated cartoon.

But he was also a fine artist of great vision and skill, crafting large canvases brimming with startling, often confrontational, tableaux.

Most of all, Van was a lovely, kind, gentle soul, and those of us who had the opportunity to collaborate with him always relished the experience. His imagination and wit were formidable.

We loved him. We will miss him deeply.
