A MASSIVE YEAR
ON THE HORIZON?

While 2019 was a successful year for the music biz on all accounts, one thing noticeably missing was massive albums from seasoned superstars. Aside from Taylor Swift, Post Malone and Ariana Grande, superstars (non-debut albums) were off-cycle. Giant 2018 albums from Drake, Travis Scott and Lady Gaga (ASIB soundtrack) were still Top 10 on the 2019 year-end albums chart.

So who should we expect projects from in 2020? Justin Bieber early in the year is a lock. Rumors of Adele’s return continue to swirl. Drake is likely to drop another LP—and possibly a reunion with Future for WATTBA2.

Interscope could have giant rap albums from Shady/Aftermath’s Eminem, TDE’s Kendrick Lamar and Dreamville/Roc Nation’s J. Cole. On top of that, Gaga has teased LG6 multiple times on social media.

Rihanna disappointed her “Navy” in 2019 as she teased an album on the way, yet nothing came—will she come through this year? Beyoncé is due for the follow-up to Lemonade. 4:44 turns three years old this year; perhaps we’ll get Jay-Z’s next solo album.

The Weeknd ended 2019 with two new tracks, setting up an LP that’s coming this year. Post Malone has released three albums within three years; could he go four-for-four?

Childish Gambino is still expected to deliver his first album with RCA, and Cactus Jack/Epic’s Travis Scott could potentially drop the follow-up to ASTROWORLD.
