VOLLACK TAKES HER SHOW TO BROADWAY

Longtime Sony Pictures music and theater chief Lia Vollack is going out on her own, overseeing Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous and the Michael Jackson piece MJ the Musical as they make their way to Broadway.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

The stage version of Crowe's film from 2000 recently wrapped its pre-Broadway tryout at San Diego's Old Globe and Vollack is looking for a Broadway house for a 2020 opening. The Jackson musical, formerly titled Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, will play the Neil Simon Theatre beginning 7/6 with an opening night of 8/13.

Lia Vollack Productions will produce the shows with Sony as a partner.

Vollack, who spent 22 years with the studio, heading worldwide music and building Columbia Live Stage, says she intends to explore turning Sony properties into theatrical productions and is now consulting for Sony Music on its theatrical endeavors. Columbia Live Stage will continue to function as the studio's theatrical licensing arm.
