YOUR WISH IS PANDORA'S COMMAND

Pandora app users can now command musical selections with a simple “hey Pandora” request, upping the number of streaming services with voice control capabilities.

Pandora (which was recently acquired by SiriusXM) has activated its Voice Mode smart assistant feature for all Pandora app users on iOS and Android across all tiers of service. You'll find more about the system, first announced at CES, here.

Voice control had previously been available only on smart products like Amazon Alexa and Google Home; now, for the first time it is available within the Pandora app. Voice has been a big contributor to expanding the streaming user base, notably among upper-demo consumers who have thus far been slow to adopt the platform.

Pandora's dominance as a radio-style DSP leader led to its entry into the on-demand marketplace, where it has faced stiff competition from the bigger services. Will voice open new frontiers for the company, as it has for Amazon? Stay tuned.
