With our Black Music Month special issue landing on desks imminently, we return to this stellar image from Roc Nation's Grammy brunch, which coincided with Clarence Avant receiving an Industry Icons Award. Avant (who's the subject of a new, must-watch Netflix doc) is joined here by three men who figure prominently in the last few decades of music: Diddy, Jay-Z and Sony/ATV boss Jon Platt.
Our sprawling BMM playlist of songs from 1972-2000 (also coming soon) features numerous recordings driven by Avant, Diddy and Hova; Platt, meanwhile, who began his publishing career in the latter part of that timeline, had spun quite a few of those records during his years a hot Denver DJ.
