KATY PERRY BEGINS NEW ERA WITH "NEVER REALLY OVER"

At the YouTube Space in L.A. Wednesday night, Katy Perry hosted an event during which she premiered the video for her summery new single, "Never Really Over."

The Capitol superstar kicked off a new era in her career, as the first solo material since 2017's Witness hits all platforms Friday, 5/31.

In a Q&A with choreographer Kyle Hanagami, Katy talked about maintaining honesty and authenticity in her creative process, while leaving the message in her lyrics and artwork up for interpretation. She said she wrote "Never Really Over" —which features production from "365" collaborator, Zedd—while on tour in Australia in August.

Perry also mentioned that she's open (also a symbolic theme throughout the video and artwork) to releasing music sporadically in the future, and if there's a strong demand for a full project, then that could follow as well.

Using soft orange and blue tones, the holistic video plays on Katy's journey to her comfort and acceptance of herself now, acknowledging past trials and tribulations as necessary learning opportunities.

The KP5 era, as KatyCats the world over refer to it, has just begun.
