After a prolonged contest, the management for Lil Nas X has landed with Gee Roberson and Adam Leber at Maverick. Lil Nas’ family was said to have been swayed by Gee’s history with Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne and other luminaries.
The Ron Perry-signed Columbia rapper behind the world-shaking “country trap” smash “Old Town Road” is repped for legal by David Jacobs at Grubman, Shire, Meisalas & Sacks.
“Old Town Road” is currently at 2.3m+ song project total RTD (230k+ album equivalents), with more than 273m streams and 357k+ sales.
Thanks to the original version--which exploded out of viral videos on TikTok and other user-generated content and quickly became a cultural phenomenon—and a hot remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, “Road” has parked itself at the top of the heap for many weeks. The remix retains the #1 spot on our most recent Streaming Songs and Song Revenue Charts, earning nearly three times the streams and more than twice the ducats of its nearest competitor. The remix is #1 at Spotify U.S. and Apple Music U.S. and Global, and #2 at Spotify Global and iTunes.
A lot of gatekeepers said it wasn’t country. Lil Nas X just rode into Stagecoach with Billy Ray to a hero’s welcome, so whatever you wanna call it, country fans—like music consumers in general—care a lot.
The official video hasn’t dropped yet.
