Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” isn’t just a pop-cultural phenomenon, the Columbia smash is also throwing off massive amounts of cash—nearly $720k (that’s not a typo) during the week ending 4/11—to blow away the competition on our Song Revenue Chart. To put that jaw-dropping number in perspective, the second-biggest earner, Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” generated $171k.
Billie, who owned the Top 50 a week earlier, landed eight tracks in the Top 50, while Khalid’s chart-topping Free Spirit (Right Hand Music/RCA) claimed seven slots, led by current single “Better,” which pulled in $125k, good for #5.
Nas and Khalid’s big weeks resulted in a striking reshuffling of the revenue deck, giving Sony its best week in recent memory, as the company sliced off 35% of the weekly marketshare pie, just 14 percentage points behind UMG, which has become accustomed to 60%+ weeks since streaming became a thing.
