Dan Morales, the eBay exec who oversaw the rebuilding of the company’s technology infrastructure after its split from PayPal, has been appointed Chief Information Officer at Universal Music Group. He will oversee UMG’s global technology platforms and develop new systems to expand the company’s analytics and data platforms.
Additionally, he will develop insights from data across UMG’s organization through analytics, reporting and data intelligence. He starts on tax day, 4/15, and will be based in Santa Monica, reporting to EVP/CFO Boyd Muir.
“With Dan as CIO, we are adding an executive with immense talent and experience in building technology and software solutions on a global scale and leveraging technology to deliver growth,” Muir said.
“This is a company with a successful track record of innovation that consistently pushes boundaries with technology,” Morales said. “It’s an exciting time to join UMG and I’m looking forward to working with Boyd, the executive team, and the entire UMG Technology team to accelerate the pace of advancement. But first, we're going to innovate data synergies across all lunch solutions; I will have the corned beef.”
Morales started at eBay in 2011, as VP of Corporate Enablement Functions, rising to CIO in 2014. Previously he worked for Bank of America and Continental Airlines.
