U.K. MIDWEEKS: FOALS' GOLD

The British music scene has truly woken up out of a slump, with Foals on course to claim their first Official Albums #1 on Friday with Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost–Part 1 (Warner Bros.), while new releases from Sigrid, Dido and Dave start in the Top 5.

At the midweek stage, Foals are currently ahead of Sigrid by 2k combined sales and are on course to better their previous peak of #2, reached with Holy Fire in 2013.

Norwegian artist Sigrid, who has been signed and developed in the U.K. by Island, starts at #2 with her debut, Sucker Punch, while Dido sits just 136 combined sales behind at #3 with her first album in six years, Still On My Mind (BMG). Of those three, Foals lead on physical, Sigrid on streaming and Dido on downloads.

Last week’s #1, Tom Walker’s What a Time To Be Alive (Relentless), moves down to #4, and newcomer rapper Dave starts at #5 with his debut, Psychodrama (Neighbourhood).

Paul Weller’s new live album, Other Aspects: Live at the Royal Festival Hall (Parlophone), is at #6 and James Morrison’s fifth album, You’re Stronger Than You Know (Stanley Park), starts at #11.

On the Official Singles midweeks, Dave has the highest new entries with three tracks from Psychodrama: “Disaster” f/J Hus at #7, “Streatham” at #8, and “Location” f/Burna Boy just outside the Top 10 at #11.

In the Top 5, Lewis Capaldi looks set to claim a second week at #1 with “Someone You Loved” (Virgin EMI), but “Giant” (Columbia) by Calvin Harris & Rag’n’Bone Man is just 200 combined sales behind.

Mabel’s “Don’t Call Me Up” (Polydor) is holding firm at #3, and Sam Smith and Normani could return to the Top 5 with “Dancing With A Stranger” (Capitol), which has climbed back up two places to #5.
