It's official: David Massey’s Arista Records has tapped industry veteran John Boulos as EVP Promotion. The well-liked promo player will be based in NYC and will report to Massey. He’ll begin building his national team as soon as he finishes calling everyone in the building “buddy.”
“We are very excited to have John Boulos join the Arista team,” proclaimed Massey, who relaunched the Sony label last year. “He is an artist-driven executive who is highly respected amongst the artist and radio community. He is bringing his invaluable experience and insight and building a formidable promotion team. We are very happy to welcome him. But can someone tell me why he asks every 15 minutes when FedEx is coming?”
“I’ve never been more excited than to be a part of rebuilding Arista Records,” Boulos chimed in. “David Massey is someone I’ve worked with and admired throughout my career. His vision, passion and creativity are second to none. This business is all about the music, and after hearing the artists he and his team have signed, I have no doubt that this is the beginning of a great new label. Say, is FedEx here yet?”
The NYC native spent the last decade-plus as EVP Promo at Roadrunner/Atlantic and began his career working in the London Records mailroom by day and DJing by night. He would subsequently serve at Capitol, Warner Bros. Records, Epic and Virgin; his earlier years included stints at Mercury, Island, RCA, Inner City and Vanguard. Thanks to his new gig, he has now held posts at enough labels to qualify for a free cappuccino.
