British rapper Octavian has been crowned winner of BBC Music’s Sound of 2019, with King Princess, Grace Carter, slow thai and Rosalia completing the Top 5. The artist is signed to Sony label Black Butter and managed by Palm Artists.
Octavian—who is one of three Sony artists in the Top 5, alongside King Princess and Rosalia—released his first full-length mixtape, Spaceman, last year, and has been championed by Drake as well as BBC radio DJs Annie Mac, Phil Taggart and DJ Target. He’s praised for his innovative approach to making music, which blends house, rap and drill to R&B, dancehall, grime and U.K. hip-hop. He signed a worldwide publishing deal with Sony/ATV and Stellar Songs’ JV last year and is managed by Greg Burnell and Cillian Farrell at Palm Artists.
The longlist for the BBC Sound Of 2019 also included Dermot Kennedy, Ella Mai, Flohio, Mahalia and Sea Girls.
