GRAMMYS PICK DATES FOR '20, '21 SHOWS

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards will be held 1/26/2020 and the 63rd on 1/31/2021 at Staples Center. Both events are on Sundays.

For those who like to read between the lines, Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow hinted that any move to a city other L.A. after this year’s New York event is not in the mix. The Grammy family, he said, "is pleased to call Los Angeles, Staples Center, and CBS our partners in celebrating musical excellence, and we look forward to furthering the synergistic and successful relationship we've cultivated over the years."

The return to a January date—next year’s event will take place 2/10—puts the Grammys one week ahead of the Super Bowl and two weeks in front of the Academy Awards, which are moving to 2/9 in 2020, the earliest the Oscars have been in its 90 years of ceremonies.

Despite the Recording Academy having earlier announced its return to L.A., Mayor Eric Garcetti trumpeted the news by saying, “The music industry is integral to L.A.'s economy, and reflects the spirit of the city itself: diverse, imaginative, and always ready to break new ground. We are thrilled to welcome the Grammys back to the creative capital of the world, and look forward to hosting the awards for years to come."
