SiriusXM and Amazon are partnering to offer the satellite radio giant's channels on Echo smart speakers. Alexa, meet Howard Stern.
The goal of the "Bring Us Home" campaign is to get listeners to use the service in the home in addition to the car.
For a limited time, customers who own or purchase a new Amazon Echo device through Amazon.com will get their first three months of SiriusXM programming free. Customers who go to SiriusXM.com to subscribe at the new promotional rate will receive Amazon's Echo Dot for free, with a minimum six-month service requirement.
Existing SiriusXM subscribers who upgrade from a SiriusXM Select to a SiriusXM All Access package will also be eligible for an offer to receive Amazon's all-new Echo Dot.
“With an Echo device, the SiriusXM streaming service is easier than ever to use in the home,” said SiriusXM CEO Jim Meyer. “This marks the beginning of a collaboration between our two companies that will empower us both to serve new and existing customers better as we bundle our products and offer exceptional value for their purchase."
Additional initiatives involving Amazon devices, the Alexa voice service, and SiriusXM programming are expected to be announced this year.
As we indicated recently, SXM's Pandora deal was the beginning of a headlong rush to grab "lean-back" consumers, notably upper-demo segments, and particularly in the car. Meanwhile, Amazon is hoping to grow its audience share in the streaming space on the strength of voice activation, to grab demos that aren't already "leaning on the button."
And when Alexa becomes fully sentient, you will no longer have to worry about programming. She's got this.
